The case against former MP Sarana Gunawardena will be taken up for hearing.

When the bribery case filed against Sarana Gunawardena, an organizer and former MP of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, was taken up for hearing before the Colombo High Court today (30), the accused made a statement from the dock.

Three witnesses were then named to testify on behalf of the defendant and High Court Judge R.S.S. Sapuvida summoned them to appear before the court on August 26th.

This bribery case has been filed against Sarana Gunawardena, who served as the Chairman of the Development Lotteries Board in 2007 and 2008, on the charge of obtaining a vehicle on a lease basis from Senarath Hettiarachchi, causing a loss of Rs. 9,60,000 to the institution.

Two more cases filed against Sarana Gunawardena regarding incidents of vehicle misuse during his tenure as the Chairman of the Development Lotteries Board are being heard before High Court Judge Upali Abeyratne.
